Review of Klipsch Image S3 In-Ear Headphones

  • Honestly, it can be difficult to find even a halfway decent pair of in-ear headphones. I may not be an audiophile, but I love music and appreciate quality sound; plus, headphones are crucial to my existence, as I incorporate them extensively into pretty much every aspect of my life. One of those aspects--my gym habit--is particularly important to cater to. After breaking one pair of no-name brand in-ears that were of "acceptable" quality and going through several earbud style designs with poor noise isolation, I decided to venture forth and get a quality pair of in-ears. My requirements were as follows: Excellent noise isolation (I want to hear my music, not the paleolithic grunting of over-tattooed guys like this ) Snug fit that makes it difficult for the bud to "pop out" while working out Rich bass and midrange (I mostly listen to heavy metal and industrial music when exercising) Under $50 if possible After wading through dozens of options, I was attracted to the Klipsch line of headphones primarily due to the excellent price and the novel ear tip design, which promises a better fit--something I have always had issues with when it comes to in-ear 'phones. Are they...

4 Steps to Protecting Your Digital Life

  • Throughout the nineties, the home computer revolution exploded. Computers were no longer for the geeks and business users. And while many began discovering the joys of using computers for the first time, those same users also started learning some hard lessons about the dark side of computing, like data loss, viruses, scams, and more. Over the first 10 years of computing, users have been beaten into submission to take some basic steps to protect their data from loss. How many times were you told to "save early, and save often" so you didn't lose your work if your computer locked up. As Internet access became more widespread, so too did viruses and malware, also threatening to steal and destroy your personal data. I easily could have started here as the first step to complete data protection, but this day and age most computer users know to have some kind of security software installed, and I suspect most who have a "Digital Life" do. Data Protection Step 1: Back Up Your Digital Life Is it surprising to you that backing up your data is the "first" step to data protection? If you're a hardcore PC enthusiasts at the forefront of technology,...

Nikon D5000 digital SLR camera

  • Hello friends.. I recently purchased Nikon D5000 digital SLR camera with 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR AF-S DX lens from buy.com through http://www.dealrocker.com discount deal. Just wondering do I need lens filter right away? Should I get just a UV filter or go with a polarizing lens? BTW my budget is under $100. Any recommendations for a tripod also welcome. Thanks..

New Uses for Old Gadgets: Build a 'Watch Anywhere' Baby Monitor with Slingbox

  • Those who know me or follow my blog will attest, I have a fair amount of older gadgets and gizmos I've collected over the years. Some sit on shelves behind a glass door museum-style, but most would be surprised by the sheer number of old devices I've found new uses for. So, when the need arose to put together a nursery for my new bundle of joy, I went to work putting a few of my older gadgets back into service. One of our goals was to have the option to monitor the baby visually, and after pricing out some $200+ baby video monitors, I decided to slap something together from several devices I already own that are no longer in use; most notably, the Slingbox Classic [ original review ]. The result is what my wife and I call "The SlingTot," a baby monitor accessible from around the world as well as at home. What You'll Need: A Slingbox A video camera with an A/V output. Night mode is required if you're planning on using it at night. Network accessibility or a Wireless internet solution Optional (but recommended) is at least one smartphone or PDA with SlingPlayer Mobile. Set...
