Walmart’s Renewable Energy Push: A Path to 100% Clean Energy by 2035

Walmart is on a mission to be fully powered by renewable energy by 2035, and the retail giant is making significant strides towards this goal. With commitments to construct nearly 1 gigawatt of new clean energy projects across the country, Walmart is investing in 19 solar projects, including 15 community solar projects, in collaboration with national renewable energy provider Pivot Energy. This strategic investment will facilitate the construction of 72 megawatts of community solar projects in five states, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and increasing renewable energy production.

By partnering with Pivot Energy and investing in solar projects, Walmart is not only accelerating the clean energy transition but also driving positive outcomes for communities. These projects will not only contribute to a cleaner power grid but also provide direct savings on energy costs for thousands of households, including low- and moderate-income communities. Walmart’s commitment to renewable energy financing and innovative partnerships underscores its dedication to sustainability and decarbonization efforts.

In addition to community solar projects, Walmart is also focusing on long-term renewable energy purchase agreements to further reduce emissions and deliver more clean energy to its power grids. By collaborating with leading energy companies like NextEra Energy Resources, EDP Resources, EDP Renewable North America, and Invenergy, Walmart is expanding its renewable energy portfolio in new regions, supporting local jobs, generating tax revenue, and driving progress towards its renewable energy and emissions reduction goals. These initiatives will not only help Walmart achieve its target of being 100% powered by renewable energy by 2035 but also contribute to its zero emissions targets, showcasing the company’s commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship.
